2012-13 Guelph Thunder Rep Coach Bios and Contact Info:

Deny Brulotte - NOVICE B  [ Email Coach
Deny’s love for hockey began on the ponds of the small northern Ontario town of White River. He playing organized hockey when he moved to Sault Ste. Marie where he played Bantam & Midget AAA hockey. He played Junior B in Chatham and St. Thomas. When he landed in Windsor, ON for University, he embarked on a career in officiating and coaching. He coached a Bantam AA team there and at the same time, he officiated for the OMHA, OHA & CIS systems, the Ontario Ball Hockey Association and Inline Hockey. Once he moved to Guelph in 1998, he continued officiating, supervising, playing and became a Video Goal Judge for the OHL. His passion for hockey never stopped and he resumed his coaching aspirations when his three daughters began to play. Deny entered the GGHA coaching realm 3 years ago coaching an Atom House League team to regular season champions and assisting his youngest daughter’s team, the Thunder Novice B. In 2010 he became the head coach. Deny’s focus for the upcoming year is: hard work, team building skills, hockey skills, overall development and a focus on fun while playing, “...the best game in the world”. He is excited and looking forward to working with the Novice Thunder again for the 2012-13 season.

Kevin Lomax - ATOM A [Email Coach]

Kevin is a lifetime resident of Guelph and father of 2 girls, both currently playing the GGHA Rep program. His love for hockey began at 6 years old, playing in the GMHA for both Rep and Select through to the age of 18. Kevin’s coaching career began in 2004/05 with the GGHA as an assistant coach for Atom AA. Most recently he has been an assistant coach with the Midget AA for 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons. This will be Kevin’s first assignment as a head coach and he is thrilled with the opportunity. This year’s Atom A program will be focussed on Team Work, Skill Development, Work Ethic and most of all enjoyment of the game.

Bryan Billings - PEEWEE A [Email Coach]
I am born and raised in Guelph and was fortunate to play AAA hockey for the G.M.H.A. from Novice through to Midget.  I also had the opportunity to play Junior B hockey for Guelph and Senior A hockey for the Palmerston 81's.  My family is all involved with hockey with 3 girls and one boy all playing, 2 of which are playing rep.  My coaching philosophy is one that demands the girls on my team to have respect for one another, their parents, the opposition, and the game, both on and off the ice.  This years Peewee Tier 1 team will be focusing on improving puck support and control, positional play, individual skill development, and work ethic. I feel it is also important to provide the kids with a fun environment to play the game we all love and hopefully provide them with the ability to play the game to their highest potential.

Mario Martini - BANTAM AA Email Coach ]
Born and Raised in Guelph, played his minor hockey in the Guelph Minor Hockey Association system.Drafted to the Guelph Platers of the Ontario Hockey League in 1982, played three years in the OHL with Guelph, Belleville and Sudbury. Began coaching in 1989/90 as an assistant coach with the Guelph Minor Midget AAA team and has over 20 years of assistant and head coaching experience in minor hockey in both the GMHA and GGHA associations ranging from tyke A to midget AAA levels. Recent position as coach of the GGHA Peewee AA Thunder team, placed 5th overall in league standing out of a 12 team division in only the girls first year of playing at this level.  Main objectives and philosophy for the upcoming season is to continue to represent the City of Guelph and the GGHA as a respected and competitive team in the LLFHL, with emphasis on continuous improvement and positive reinforcement in the area’s of teamwork, individual / group skills and sportsmanship.

This past season Andre was Head Coach of the GMHA Minor Bantam HL Select team, which went on to win 1 of 3 Rep tournaments entered. As a coach Andre has always placed greater importance on fostering the means to achieve desired outcomes, rather than narrowly focusing on the outcomes themselves. This coming hockey season's emphasis will focus on developing and improving the core skills of the individual players, and teaching them how to compete within a team context.

Howard Tuffnail - MIDGET AA  [ Email Coach ]
Howie grew up playing & refereeing minor hockey in Stratford, but has called Guelph home now for over 20 years. Within the GGHA, Howie served as Head Coach for 3 seasons between 2004-2007 winning a North Metro Atom A Championship in 05/06 along with several tournament wins. More recently, Howie served as Assistant Coach for the 09/10 Bantam BB OWHA Provincial champions and the 10/11 Midget A team. For the 11/12 season, he returned as head Coach of the Midget A team and has guided them to a successful 32W-14L-15T YTD season record and a berth in Provincials.
As Head Coach of the 12/13 Midget AA team, Howie's program will continue to evolve around his four core principles of speed/pressure, puck control, puck support and transition with player development balanced between individual skill development and team tactics & systems.
